Leakage from the spring line (SL) was causing the formation of ice pillars, which posed safety risks. Additionally, snow-melting pipes were installed on the sidewalk, making it difficult to manage water flow, necessitating effective countermeasures. To address the leakage from the SL, arch drain surface drainage was implemented, and side drains were installed for the drainage treatment of the water flow. This is an example of a tunnel leakage prevention construction project using "surface drainage" at the Taka Tunnel in the Sado Loop Line, located in Sado City, Niigata Prefecture. There were numerous cracks over a wide area at the top of the tunnel, leading to leakage. On the other hand, there was a request not to install drainage pipes in areas without leakage other than the top, necessitating efficient drainage measures. In this project, it was necessary to implement a fill height of approximately 12 meters on soft ground, and consolidation settlement of the soft ground was anticipated. Therefore, we proposed the high-pressure horizontal drainage material "Public Drain" as an alternative to the sand mat.
